Sony PlayStation 4 Review

Sony history in the world of video games began in 1994, with PlayStation, a stratospheric potential machine for its time, able to displace the whole world becoming the new paradigm of videogame entertainment then known. His story is then continued with PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, in 2000, and in 2007, continuing on the wake of the successful path since the first generation.

After six years, now Sony back on stage with PlayStation 4 and follows the historic competitor Microsoft launched Xbox One last week (in the us, in fact, is available from a couple of weeks). We analyze with magnifying this new console.
Specifications and performance

Under the black armor of PlayStation 4, Sony wanted to place a respectable hardware system, opting for a solution overall computing capabilities of 1.84 APU from Teraflops, which pulsate a 8-core 1.6 GHz AMD processor Jaguar and an AMD Radeon graphics chip from 800 MHz frequency. The technical equipment includes a 500 GB internal HDD replaceable, 8 GB of RAM, a Blu-ray player and GDDR5 modules Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for connectivity.

With regard to the connections on the back have an entry for power, an HDMI port, one for the PlayStation camera, an optical output and an Ethernet port for connecting to the Internet via cable. On the front there are two USB 3.0.

PlayStation 4 technical equipment is slightly higher than the Xbox One and it is rumored that the frequency of the processor can get even 1.8 GHz (something that we could not yet test). Performance is actually notable, and the console proves fast in dealing with routine operations and installations of video games that, as for Xbox One, must be installed.

Despite the promises of a few months ago, PlayStation 4 does not support 3D on Blu-ray and video games, but this will become available soon with a software update. Ultra HD resolution (only available in TVs that have this technology) will be usable only for videos and pictures, but not to play.

PlayStation 4 is not intended as an innovative or particularly identifiable looking device, but at least it has style. The line is simple and sinuous, slightly oblique shape, proves to be much more aggressive and beautiful to look at than any product that the company will do in the living room.

The case is divided into two parts by a thin line of LED that changes color depending on the State of the console. The part to the left – which is about one third of the total – is made of glossy plastic, while the right side is finished in matte plastic. On the back there is a grid for ventilation.

If you wanted to keep your console, for a mere matter of space, you will need to purchase a base cost around 20 euros. It is however true that this support does not offer a good stability to the console and the PlayStation 4 quivers at the slightest movement. If you’re not going to take an extra expense, you can still keep the PS4 vertically even without the official stand. It should be noted that the console standing exercises far less charm than the lying position, which is obviously one that was designed from the very beginning.

Sony has decided to turn the page clearly, even with regard to the controller, adding to the release of the new console, the new DualShock, arrived now in its fourth incarnation. The Japanese company has nevertheless retained a certain aesthetic continuity, optimising ergonomics and lengthening the handle, in order to provide a more secure grip and comfortable handling.

The most important improvement is, without doubt, that relating to analog joysticks, since now are concave and convex, and thus no longer guarantee better adherence to the inch. Other new features are the capacitive touchpad with two touches that can be exploited in some games, the light bar placed between triggers that changes color depending on the situation in-game, and the presence of the Share button – to share online content with your contacts – and of the Options button, which replace the old Start and Select.

The PlayStation 4 Room – available separately at a price of 60 euros – is certainly not at the top of the strategic plans of Sony, as for Kinect by Microsoft, but there is no doubt that this tool has been enhanced compared to predecessor PlayStation Eye.

The controller allows you to capture video at 1,280 × 800 pixels at 60 frames per second and it works in synergy with Dualshock 4 (or PlayStation Move), revealing the bright line between movements gamepad’s triggers, and also has a facial recognition function and a sensor for managing voice commands.

Also there is an important evolution compared to the PlayStation Eye, spelled out by the software PlayRoom, an application that allows you to interact with the virtual robots augmented reality screen visible and able to create new mini games, to do well in the company of another user. Four microphones you can also perform a variety of voice commands, such as access to the web browser. In our tests using voice commands were received well by the PlayStation Camera.

PlayStation 4 interface looks much brighter and intuitive than the PS3, and has initially by five main tabs: News, Internet Browser, Playroom (see paragraph room), Live from the PlayStation and Downloads, while other Windows are added when you install the games. In Live from PlayStation you can see live matches broadcast by other players and interact in real time with comments.

Moreover, given the large growth of the social, Sony wanted to tread even more hands on this aspect. For this, with the PlayStation 4 players can show off to your friends their sequences of swatting game just the Share button on the Duaslhock 4: the console, in fact, records of default gaming sessions and then allows you to save them in clips lasting a maximum of 15 minutes in order to then send to Facebook and Twitter (but not on YouTube). Whoever wants to, can also cut some parts and, thanks to the partnership with Ustream apps and Twitch, you can share the other player of their gaming enterprises.

Of course, all other activities – and not just the media – can be shared with others. Also interesting is the group voice chat, which allows you to talk (and send short voice messages) with seven other interlocutors involved with different games. This feature was excluding PlayStation 3 (with which you can still communicate through text messages), while the PlayStation life.

Sony PlayStation 4 also offers ancillary services such as Music Unlimited and Unlimited Videos. The first is sort of similar to Spotify music platform, which gives the ability to listen to songs streamed on the console, and holds up to 22 million tracks. The app is available for free for 14 days, but then you need to take out a subscription, available in two variants: £ 4.99 for 30 days and € 9.99 per month with the option to enjoy your music on mobile devices. Video Unlimited allows you to rent or listen to movies.

But there is bad news for those used to playing online completely free of charge: from now on, to participate in an online multiplayer online you will need to subscribe to PlayStation Plus.

The line-up of first-party titles that accompanies the launch of PlayStation 4 is not quite as rich as you would like and is composed of the only Knack, a platform that gives a nod to Crash Bandicoot. Killzone: Shadow Fall, new installment in the series of science fiction FPS from Guerilla Games and has an astonishing technical facility; Resogun, a scrolling shooter available only in digital delivery and free for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Also there are three free-to-play online multiplayer games only: the Flight Simulator set in World War II War Thunder, Warframe and, finally, DC Universe Online, a MMORPG by Superman, Batman and associates.

PlayStation 4 is the ideal game machine, and continues in the tradition of Sony putting in first place the list of media, with a strong social aspect. Nevertheless, the new console is not even a good Media Center, with the ability to watch movies (also in 3D), listen to music.

Unfortunately the line-up of exclusive at launch can count on only Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack, but are still available all other products cross-gen triple-a. It should be pointed out also the competitive price of 399 euros (100 euros less than the Xbox One), which could prove to be an important discriminating in choosing the next-gen console.

New Asus Transformer 3 Variants

The number “3” today for Asus reserves other surprises. In addition to the new line of smartphones / tablet ZenFone 3 (composed of three variants), the Taiwanese manufacturer has presented the new range of laptops / 2-in-1 tablet Asus Transformer 3, coincidentally also composed this by three different models: Asus Transformer 3 Transformer 3 Transformer 3 Pro and Mini. The offer is targeted to cover a fairly wide range of budgets, although still were not branched prices of the various products. Let’s examine them one by one, starting this time from the more expensive product.

Asus Transformer 3 Pro

The Transformer 3 Pro is the most expensive (from $ 999) of the three devices introduced today by Asus, and uses a 12.6-inch display with a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels well, for a pixel density of 275 ppi. Under the shell there is a powerful Intel Core i7 processor (which we imagine will vary depending on configuration), while for storage you opt for a 1TB PCIe SSD segment, complemented by 16GB of RAM to 2133MHz.

It amazes the decision to mount even a 13mp camera on the back of the computer – usually reserved for solution of smartphone-class devices. The Transformer 3 Pro, as is normal for a business product, incorporates a biometric sensor for fingerprint recognition. Of all respect the design, which leads to a thickness of 8:35 mm, including the removable stand which allows to adjust the angle up to 170 degrees.

As for connectivity, we find on board the Transformer 3 Pro a Type-C USB port convertible, a Thunderbolt port, a USB 3.0 and HDMI. Audio is handled by the Harman Kardon speakers.

Asus Transformer 3

The Transformer 3 display is the same as the Transformer 3 Pro, while with regard to connectivity are excluded Thunderbolt port and HDMI port. They lead to changes in performance, although the presence of the Intel Core i5 processor seventh generation, supported by 8GB of RAM (maximum – the standard is 4GB) and 256GB of SSD PCIe storage (512GB max) passes far from unnoticed.

The advantage is the reduced thickness – 6.9 mm compared to the Pro model; the weight is 695 grams, while the battery is 38.5 Whr. Asus Transformer 3 will be priced at $ 799 to start.

Asus Transformer 3 Mini

The Transformer 3 Mini is mini in everything: in fact the processor is an Intel Atom X5, which though less powerful than the Intel Core counterparts are able to offer a greater autonomy, while the screen is composed of a smaller panel than the Transformer 3 solutions and Transformer 3 Pro with 10.1-inch diagonal and resolution not yet specified.

The weight of the product is equal to 530 grams without the keyboard, and 790 grams with the annexation of the keyboard. Both the keyboards of the other two models of the Transformer 3 Mini are backlit LED; fits even a biometric fingerprint sensor is this model on the back. Asus has not yet issued the price of this model, as well as the rest of the specifications.

Acer Aspire S13 Review

Acer manufactures notebooks for a lifetime. E ‘was the first company to move on Ultrabook market is the one that counts the series longest (Aspire S7, from two years among the best), he continued to believe in class even when it meant only take risks. To say they are not surprised by the excellent impressions I had in these 10 days of testing with Aspire S13, the newest.

Yet the conditions were not at all obvious. A 999 Euros in Europe (IPS panel configuration with non-touch, Skylake Core i5, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD) this ultraportable could end up asking too many sacrifices in exchange for lack of real, maybe below average range, poor screen, a little sliding touchpad. Or he could really be the work laptop or ideal studio, practical, old-fashioned, is recommended in the price list is made in the everyday.

And ‘indeed the case: Aspire S13 gone does not force compromises, has no technical problems or constructive (perhaps the ointment is the thickness of the cover, very thin with a creaking effect), use standard-size doors and a replaceable memory SSD, has a ‘battery life of 6 comfortable hours in Wi-Fi use stress, and 8 hours in use lightweight Internet or partially offline – maybe by train to write papers or watch a movie.

The test configuration has S5-371 code. He Core i7-6500U CPU and SSD Skylake Liteon CV1 512 GB. Costa 1099 € list and is the most handsome on the market. Like the other from 899 EUR, has 8 GB of RAM in Dual Channel and Wi-Fi ac chip Qualcomm QCA6174 (values averaged over Iperf, look at the table below), two USB 3.0 ports, a USB-C 3.1 by 5 Gbps (no Thunderbolt) and the Intel HD GPU 520 (GT2) with 24 processors.

On a 13.3 IPS matte Full HD screen, very bright and without automatic sensor, and with a SATA 3 SSD M.2 529 and 460 MB / s, super responsive in 4K files, start Windows 10 in 7 seconds off, open Photoshop in a moment, indexes 2 GB of photos and video on Adobe Lightroom in the range you see the minute 4:50 of the video review. 3DMark, have 6210 points in the Cloud Gate tests, and 876 of 3717 on skydriver FireStrike – too much for the integrated GPU.

And ‘from a hardware Ultrabook top, and is reliable in the contexts in the long run as demonstrated by the graphs of temperature, CPU usage, and operating frequency. There is no thermal throttling track. The maximum temperature of the core reaches 72 ° C but usually remains quiet below 50 ° C. The keyboard is around 32 ° C, with peaks at 39 ° C in the upper part during the benchmarks and the games. The ventilator does not often start, but it is small and fast and then makes a whistling sound that you can perceive. It ‘a behavior that could be modified in future software upgrade; at this time there is a new BIOS 1.0.3 but its changelog is generic and not detailed.

To summarize, if you really do not want to lose yourself for a few minutes in the graphs below, it is really a good machine in practical use: it does what it should and has no weaknesses of design and construction defects.

Further down you will find 2 thermal images (reactor effect!) And other photos taken at the open laptop, without the bottom. Disassemble it is only a matter of bolts, traditional. Take the case of the CMOS battery, all thermal pads applied on the components, the modularity of the battery and, in fact, the size of the fan. But keep in mind that mine is a sample of pre-production, probably less refined the production models.

The keyboard is excellent. It has a low stroke but an important rebound due to the metal plate that is a little below. Leaves you write fluently, has well spaced keys, it has the SHIFT and CTRL large far left, where it belongs. And ‘flush with the wrist rest because he resides in a recessed area in the rest, and this makes sure that the fingers arrive at the keys with a push. I would have moved the power button at the top right, yes, but it is one of the most comfortable keyboards last period.

Touchpad fluid, he too like all new-generation Windows 10. Inset, surrounded by chrome, 150 x 65 mm. But it is a less valuable in the touchpad click buttons: need firm pressure and noisy that ends up being imprecise in certain operations. Select text by pressing your finger to move it then it becomes complicated if you do not practice. Even the front camera is not memorable, it must be said. Ok for Skype chat, but it ends there. Excellent front microphone installed because the right of the Enter key, not on the edge of the laptop.

But overall I return to the opening speech. Aspire S13 is as good as Aspire S7, but much cheaper and advisable. It has no flaws, has a good Full HD display for outdoor use, for example by train, comes in configurations that allow you to do everything from video editing with dual screen to the simple management of Office documents with low power consumption and a ‘ 8-hour autonomy, has a good sound, is 15 mm thick, weighs as much as the others – 1400 grams, has the backlit keyboard, has a hinge that tilts more than necessary.

A Dell XPS 13 hand configuration (FHD, i5, 8, 256) costs 1249 EUR, 400 EUR more. A similar Asus UX303 (FHD, i7, 8, 256) costs 1099 EUR and is 2 cm thick, it will decrease and no trace of aluminum. The Dell laptop has a more modern look, it’s true – probably the frames and the convenience of the palm rest of this Acer are the “bonds” that does not make it a top Ultrabook – but the practice is made. Whereas we talk about lists, net of offers and promotions online, I suggest you follow carefully the distribution of this Aspire S13 because it could be the final of this summer portable. The configuration of 999 Euros (IPS / i5 / 8/256) will be available in Italy in the coming weeks.

Fujifilm X70 Review

The new Fujifilm X 70 is a mirrorless camera from very interesting qualities: it has the ambition to offer a great photo quality within a compact body strongly and very gifted at the same time, in terms of physical construction and controls.

The mission is to engage the large part of the audience that would be ever carrying a big heavy camera, but at the same time want a serious instrument (certainly more of the classic smartphone or tablet) to take pictures which make it really justice to their images. You can tell right away that the result is achieved, although at a price that all will find attractive: the X 70 719 euros on the market, in fact, Italian coast.

At the heart of the Fujifilm X 70 is the now well-known sensor X-Trans: this is a 16 Megapixel APS-C, the same used by consumer SLR and the best mirrorless. The immediate benefit of mounting a sensor so great on a compact camera is to have a much higher image quality than the average comparable instruments, as will become clear shortly.

The other cornerstone of this camera is its goal, integrated into the camera body and thus not removable. The lens has a fixed focal length equivalent to 28 mm: a medium wide angle, ideal for street photography and at the same time very similar to the typical fixed lens of a smartphone, so perfect to fit a certain audience consumer habits. Shame about the opening not too ambitious: corresponds to f/2.8, making it more than good but not as bright as the 35 mm f/2 for example, mounted on big sister x 100.

The rest of the data sheet includes an integrated Wi-Fi antenna for communication with smart-device, a rear screen from 3 e 1040k points (equipped with touch technology and swivels up to 180° vertically: the so-called location selfie), a small flash, a mechanical/electronic shutter that reaches up to 32,000 times 1/s, a burst of 8 FPS with single-focus and Finally a video mode that records movies up to the standard 1080 p with 60 fps per second.

The build quality of the Fujifilm X 70 is very good and mirrors that of a tool from the premium cost. The plastics used are high quality and metal inserts enhance the appearance, as well as increasing the strength.

The overall design is good, and follows for the most part that, now known, Fujifilm’s X series. Don’t miss the ring openings, located around the lens barrel, as well as to manage timing and compensation. Always around the goal, there is another ring: depending on the mode, is used to manage several functions including AF manual or digital, simulating the focal teleconverter for 35 mm and 50 mm, giving you more flexibility when framing. Of course, the images taken are simply digital crop, undergoing a full 16 Megapixel resolution upscaling next and thus lose slightly in sharpness. The function, however, remains significant.

The back of the camera body is quite thick, generally well accessible despite its small size. The only exception is the left button on the digital cross is really very close to the screen frame and can be awkward to press, especially for those with large hands. Even the rec button for video is really small and not very accessible: is placed very close to the compensation ring above it. Finally, the electronic viewfinder is missing: perhaps the greatest waiver with respect to the X 100, performed to minimise the encumbrance.

The physical dimensions are excellent for an APS-C sensor camera: amounted to 112 mm x 64 mm x 44 mm, and weighs 340 grams with battery connected. These are values that make the X 70 trasportabilissima, able to fit comfortably in a jacket pocket or small bag, to be carried with you at all times, even where traditionally they would give up to the weight of a serious camera (a trip to the mountains, a long walk into town and the like).

In terms of the AF speed and overall performance, the Fujifilm X 70 isn’t a lightning and certainly cannot rival the best mirrorless, but the values offered are sufficient for typical usage scenarios of a camera like that.

Ignition timing are relatively quickly, the single AF is responsive (not instant) and burst 8 FPS is definitely enough to freeze movements, although after 10 frames the buffer will be filled and the shutter speeds will drop sharply (approximately 3fps). The continuous AF, however, is hardly sketched and hardly will help to provide a true tracking of fast-moving subjects: who will photograph the intense activity of their children’s game is alerted.

Of course, the real ACE in the hole of the Fujifilm X 70 is its sheer photographic quality. The big 16-Megapixel sensor combined with the excellent integrated lens, produces extraordinary shots, rivaling many SLR middle segment. The images captured by X 70 are very sharp and engraved with a great color profile and a nice dynamic range even in high contrast situations.

Low light performance is excellent, with pictures of all usable up to ISO 3,200-6,400 (with a longer lens open the results would have been even more impressive, but unfortunately would grow even physical measures).

Totally inadequate, however, the video mode. First, to start recording requires a long press of rec, which makes the operation less convenient and immediate than usual. Then, the movies reach the standard 1080 p 60, but are poor in detail and full of artifacts, such as aliasing and moire. This is, unfortunately, a negative sensor trademark X-Trans, which still needs to be solved.

The Fujifilm X 70 is a camera with excellent quality, accompanied by some defect. The combination of compact size, depth of use (or ease of use, for those who want to turn Auto mode) and image quality is really excellent: who wants to always carry a serious photographic tool but at the same time lightweight and portable profile, could hardly be better on the market at the beginning of 2016.

On the face of the criticism, the speed of the operations could be greater, as well as that of autofocus. A lens with maximum aperture of f/2.0 would further improved performance in low light and creative possibilities. Finally, some keys could have been better placed, and the video mode could (perhaps should) reach at least enough compared to current standards.

These defects, however, do not compromise the overall quality of an instrument that will give great satisfaction both to experienced photographers as for those beginner, assuming they are ready to digest the price tag: 719 euros are not too many if compared to the qualities of the X 70, but they certainly do not match the average budget of those who buy a compact camera.

HTC 10 Review

Without doubt one of the most anticipated, this HTC 10 comes after a difficult year for the Taiwanese and is ready to debut on the market in a big way. The slogan quotes: “We are redefining the high-end phone concept”, and in fact does not seem to be minded to expenses for the construction of the new top range, one of the most expensive and comprehensive on the market.

Forget the compromises, the ’10’ do not seem to be there and just the quality of its materials is confirmed for HTC one of the many strengths. The only downside, if you can call it, is the slightly protruding rear optics, but it comes to fractions of mm that do not change the substance. The body is elegant, from the right sense of rigidity and is comfortable to hold in hand.

A smartphone that improves ergonomics thanks to the tapering metal that runs along the perimeter, a pleasant choice in key design. I was fortunate in being able to test this color Carbon Grey, perhaps the sexiest of the three. If the back cover and profile are so attractive for me, I can not say the same front end. Maybe it’s the extreme resemblance to the A9 Front which brings me to such a reference, not for negative force. The lateral black frame is slightly wider than that of M9, but is missing the upper band and the lower.

The Quad HD has now become almost a standard, some producers resist the FHD and one wonders what the real benefits in terms of energy savings. However, the 5.2-inch 10 is mounted on a nice Super LCD5, very bright and can offer excellent visibility even outdoors

The possibility of choosing between the two profiles do not change the substance, the panel is of excellent quality and also ensures good daylighting. Put alongside M9 however known that HTC has some nits left on the street … There is no automatic adjustment in rapid Toggle in the notification center, we find them only the cursor, to put the check you have to go into the settings, how about A9. Why would HTC?

Snapdragon 820 does not disappoint in this case and provides a top-level hardware sector: Cat 9 LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.2, and even support for Airplay which we will test on another occasion.

4GB of RAM is almost never saturate and play is more than a pleasure on this HTC 10, although I typically used with the more challenging title, Modern Combat 5 and in FHD mode, thus saving on the battery. No problem then for the Adreno 530 on the video playback in high definition.

Even this top range has a 3000mAh battery, and those expecting miracles will have to look elsewhere. But be careful, because from my experience of use I noticed a range slightly greater than S7 and G5, which means that you will be able to safely handle a typical day into the evening with music playback, web browsing, many messages through the IM App and gaming.

I noticed that the camera often appears between modules / App which consume more, but I’m very accustomed to user photos and often abuse, however be aware that the rescue is rapid charging Quick Charge 3.0 and 30 minutes takes you from 0 to 50%.

As also called for Galaxy S7 and LG G5, under a real stress is almost impossible to arrive at night. The day when I was at Monaco and recorded the demo video I unplugged the smartphone from the cable to the 6 o’clock and at 17 went off, with 4 hours and 15 minutes of screen turned on. A borderline case, in which I used the terminal abnormally, as often happens to many travelers.

Let’s start talking about the front camera, because the step forward over its predecessor is truly remarkable. The 5 MP image sensor snaps excellent photos, boasts bright lens (f1.8) that helps to sunset and video FHD assures high quality.

Yes, because all we have to dress the optical stabilizer, a plus compared to all the competition that gives a nod to YouTubers, vloggers and all those who are to recover mobility.

I wish I could talk more in depth of Sense 8.0, but the truth is that HTC has kept some of the things already seen in previous versions and cast the rest with stock Android. If it were not for the Blinkfeed and graphics settings I could think calmly as a 10 Google Play Edition.

Disappearance choosing the type of multitasking, the same applies for quick toggle of Sense, the graphics is that stock. Remain the navigation options in the drawer. Again there Boost +, a section that allows us to optimize energy consumption and memory, with a recap and useful tools: as soon as we install a game, for example, Boost + prompts us to make the downscaling to fullHD to save battery .

We can choose themes with extreme customization and free arrangement of icons, not particularly useful for those who must go to the point and want a bit ‘of order, no doubt entertaining and enjoyable for others. To tell you the truth I miss a Sense more invasive.

Conclusions:

10 HTC proves a worthy evolution of HTC style, perfect for those who loved sotituto M7 and an excellent compromise between M9 and A9. Hardly give up anything, it has all the features of the latest generation, is not waterproof but it’s still a great product. As with all top range seen to date, autonomy is still unable to provide an usage really no thoughts but we are still at levels slightly higher than direct competitors.

HTC choose 10 today than alternatives Samsung, LG, Huawei, Sony and so is definitely not un’azzardo but it will cost a few euros more Although the 749 € list price is comparable to the price lists of S7, G5, etc., the ” devaluation “of the Taiwanese smartphone is much slower and probably 100/150 € difference will always be present even in the online store once the official distribution began.

The case involves the configurations to three different materials, as well as from list:

  • Apple Watch: shiny stainless steel, natural or black coloured sidereal;
  • Apple Watch: anodised aluminium in silver or in space grey;
  • 18 carat gold Apple Watch Edition: made with a special process that makes it twice as hard and strong relation to gold classic.

The screen is a retina display with high pixel density for make as much image quality, but especially with Force technology Touch can distinguish a quick tap from a stronger and more prolonged pressure (discerning the meaning of interaction to interpret it in different ways). The Taptic Engine included in the box also generates a small vibration which serves to return to each tap a tactile sensation making it more comfortable and secure the use of the interface.

As mentioned, each shell can be paired with a long strap option, so that we can personalize your clock according to your mood or outfit worn. So can be summarized:

  • Metals: the classic mesh bracelet and magnetic coupling or the original mesh;
  • Skin: Classic, modern security attachment straps or loops completely magnetic leather;
  • Plastic straps in different colors, from bright green to red, made of fluorelastomer, flexible and resistant. The engagement is in this case with a special clip, similar to those already in use on iPod Touch for attaching the wrist lanyard.

The hardware of the smartwatch is characterized by three major groups of main elements: the main circuit, sensors and touch, followed by additional components. Here are the details:

  • Main circuit: a comprehensive chip, dubbed S1, which contains within it a multilayered architecture inspiration desktop. In addition to compute units, contains the GPU, WiFi and receiving induction charging connectors.
  • Beside this component, isolated by a special metal roof, is the battery;
  • Sensors: on the back of Apple Watch, wrist area skin contact, special 4 infrared LEDs that are in natural light.
  • These are able to constantly measure the pulse, frequency and other data on the blood circulation. There are not much vociferati glucose detectors and the exposure to UV rays;
  • Touch: on Apple Watch are housed two different types of detectors. The first capacitive, as well as on any iDevice, each other, to understand the power that the user gives with your fingers on the Panel.

Among the additional components include instead a Retina display, a speaker and a combined system of vibration, pulsation and sounds to send to the user is a haptic feedback that tactile functions. Called Taptic Engine, is a unique element, because it plays almost faithfully the feeling of human touch on the skin. Finally, there is also a microphone to interact easily with Siri, and a MagSafe magnetic inductive charging.

Apple Watch is compatible with all devices running iOS 8.2, released to coincide with the announcement of the availability of the smartwatch. Compatible devices in particular are covered between the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and 6.

Apple amazes Watch more for its interface and for its design, the latter perhaps not too original, considered as the smartwatch is gradually abandoned the rectangular dials to land on the universe of those circulars. To turn on the screen of the device simply lift the wrist or press one of the buttons: you find yourself immersed in a GUI especially familiar, with icons that closely resemble those of iOS 8. With your fingers you can move these icons, grouped in a sort of cloud, to choose a favorite. To enter or quit an application, you do not only act on the digital zoom with the Crown. Using instant, easy and therefore appears quite fluid.

Are not yet available in all the applications that you will be proud smartwatch, many of them by third parties – such as Twitter and Facebook – with the opening of a special section of the App Store. Before looking at some of the many, it is worth remembering how the smartwatch is not standalone: will the combination to an iPhone by, from iPhone 5 and higher (up to the current iPhone 6), with WiFi and GPS active.

  • Calls: Apple Watch lets you make hands-free calls using microphone and speaker. Not being equipped with SIM tray, the feature is only available in paired with an iPhone;
  • Messages: you can participate in conversations iMessage or send SMS from your device, always paired with a melafonino. To insert text dictation is used, the only keyboard available is that of emoji;
  • Mail: Similarly to messages, you can look up their mail, to be answered again with voice dictation;
  • Maps: maps are very similar to those of iOS and OS X 8 Yosemite, keeping in mind how the iPhone’s GPS localization function needs to operate properly. Similarly, you can enable a Navigator stepper;
  • Fitness: the smart watch can subdivide the healthy activities in fitness exercises or real workout. Monitors the movement, the quantity and quality of daily activities and encourages them to not be too sedentary using special alerts. It can also keep track of intensive workouts or cardio sessions like running or stationary bike, calculating heart rate and calories burned;
  • Sharing Digital Touch: Apple Watch may communicate with each other with a system not only innovative but also particularly sensual. By invoking the contact with the appropriate side button, you can first draw to screen some sort of message to be sent to the questioner: a letter, a smiley, a short sketch. There are also emotional communication: with a twist you can make it clear to someone I thought, while keeping pressed two fingers on the screen is sent to the partner’s own heartbeat, which is faithfully reproduced by the recipient thanks to haptic feedback. For the most demanding, finally, there is the possibility to use Apple Watch as an impromptu walkie talkies;
  • Camera roll and room: accessing photographs of iOS 8, you’ll end up in front of a mosaic. With the digital Crown just zoom to enlarge each of these photographs. In addition, there is the possibility to control the distance the rear camera of the iPhone;
  • Weather, calendar and Passbook: as is evident from the home screen, the smartwatch can easily access all the information stored on weather, calendar and Passwork, also from iCloud;
  • Personalization and glance: Apple Watch interface can be highly customized to show dials according to your mood based on preset colors or designs, from classic hands at satellite pictures, passing for Mickey. Glance functions let you set of screens of information, from weather to time zones, to display just by swiping your fingers from bottom to top in the display.

Canon PowerShot G9 X Review

The Canon PowerShot G9 X is the new compact premium Japanese manufacturer, designed for those users who don’t want to compromise on quality of image, but at the same time want a compact and portable to take with itself. The pedigree is that of sister G7 X, from which they are taken the great broad sensor diagonal, high build quality and the price also quite ambitious: 519 euros on the Italian market.

The Canon G9 features a back-lit CMOS sensor from X 1 inch diagonal and 20 Megapixel resolution. This is therefore a sensitive element much larger than those typically used in compact, with consequent benefits in terms of image quality.

The 3 x zoom lens offers a focal length range equivalent to 28-84mm, with a decent wide angle and telephoto lens a bit short, that lends itself to good portraits head and shoulders but not stealing big details on distance. The maximum brightness is f/2.0 or f/4.9: in addition to short, then, the tele is also quite closed. Certainly unfortunate, but it’s the price to pay for having a sensor 1 ″ in a car so compact.

The shutter has a top speed of 1/2000s and a volley from 6 FPS (with single-focus). On the back of the camera has a 3 touch screen LCD e 1,040 k dots, rather bright and personable. WiFi and NFC are integrated.

The video mode allows you to record videos up to 1920 × 1080 Full HD resolution with 25 fps. Finally, the battery has a range of about 220 shots: not many, but more or less in line with the compact category.

The build quality of the Canon PowerShot G9 X is great. The chassis is manufactured with high quality strong and pleasant to the touch, with a simple design and elegant at the same time. The camera body measuring just 98 x 58 x 31 mm and weighs about 210 grams: values to be pocketable.

With regard to controls, the situation is more controversial. Canon has done a very particular, which threatens to be more traditional photographers indigesta: this camera offers a 4-way switch back. The vast majority of operations, therefore, needs to be carried out using the touch screen, whether it’s set ISO values, choose how autofocus or similar, there is no other solution than to interact with the menu.

The rest of the physical controls shall be reduced at death’s door: around the lens barrel is a convenient and pleasant rolling ring (offering of solids and precise “click”), but on the back are only 4 buttons, almost solely dedicated to menus.

The resulting experience is certainly not new, but somewhat inconvenient and little immediate. The lens of Canon, probably, is to reach out to users of smartphones: will the market to determine the success of such a choice.

The performance of the Canon PowerShot G9 X are overall very good for a compact camera. The camera is more or less rapidly in all operations (menu navigation, reproduction of images), as well as in autofocus, maybe not at the forefront but still very usable. Satisfying even the burst, which at 6 FPS lets not lose almost never the moment (as long as you settle into the single AF).

The image quality, as expected, is higher than the average compact. 1 inch sensor is felt and produces shots well detailed and pleasing colour, especially if the lighting is ideal. Even raising the ISO, performance remains impressive: until about 1600 produces very usable shots and generally pleasing, a milestone reached by only a few (and expensive).

The Canon PowerShot G9 X is a premium compact from interesting qualities. Its biggest advantage is to offer high image quality in a truly pocketable camera body, all with a high build quality and performance sector generally very good.

The elephant in the room is usability. Having regard to the limitations of traditional physical commands, almost everything must necessarily pass through the touch screen, a practice that probably will appeal to the generation of smartphones, but which threatens to alienate the more traditional photographers.

Even the goal could be more daring: in spite of its focal length is quite modest, tele position closed for a camera of this ambition.

The price of about 520 euro isn’t completely out of proportion, but opens the door to dangerous competitors (for similar figures may retrieve a RX100 Mk III from Sony). The advice is to carefully evaluate the pros and cons before purchasing.
